Current Information:Age-28 Born-Islington On 1st January 1915, the Germans captured a machine gun post and some observation posts held by 2 Brigade, 1st Division on the railway embankment near Cuinchy in the La Bassée area. At 10am the same morning a counter attack by some of 2nd King’s Royal Rifle Corps failed to dislodge them. On 10th January, 2nd King’s Royal Rifle Corps attacked these trenches again and this time they managed to recapture them but in the process suffered 80 casualties. |
